Epidemiology

Gilmer County Health Department offers a wide range of epidemiology, disease investigation, outbreak prevention, and disease and condition tracking and data collection in accordance with W.V. Code 16-2-11, W.V. 64 C.S.R. 73 Standards for Boards of Local Health, and W.V. 64 C.S.R. 7 Reportable Diseases, Events & Conditions.

A Dictionary of Epidemiology defines epidemiology as the ” study of distribution and determinants of health-related states among specified populations and the application of that study to the control of health problems.”  Epidemiology is a foundational principle and practice in public health.  It allows public health practitioners to understand the origins and trends of diseases, events and conditions.  This data drives disease prevention and treatment, and provides information that drives public and health policy decisions.
