Health Department

 Threat Preparedness

Gilmer County Health Department is part of the national preparedness system mandated by the U.S. Presidential Policy Directive - 8. We work with our community, regional, state, and national partners to prepare for natural disasters that could arise from a number of biological, chemical, or terror-related threats. We maintain training and awareness so we are able to respond effectively and efficiently during mass medication dispensing efforts and other large-scale responses.

Disaster Recovery

When disasters occur be prepared to sustain your family or group for at least 48 – 72 hours. Have a plan in place for the types of disasters most likely to occur in your community. Our Guide to Disaster Recovery can help.

Volunteers Make it Work

Professionals and community-minded volunteers use the West Virginia Responder Emergency Deployment Information System to register as volunteers before disasters occur. If you have the desire to help and share your skills and training during an emergency, please consider becoming a WVREDI volunteer.
